SPEECH TEXT 8TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SREBRENITSA GENOCIDE
Your Excellency President Dr. Stipe Mesic,
Federal Deputy Mr. Adis Ahmetovic,
Deputy Mr. Volkan Baran,
Mayor of Dortmund Mr. Thomas Westphal,
Consul General Ms. Visnja Loncar,
Dear Mirsada Simchen Kahrimanovic
Distinguished Members of the German Bosniak Community
Dear Guests,
The Srebrenitsa Genocide is a “black stain” in the history of mankind.
On the 28th Anniversary of this Genocide, we stand united with our Bosniak brothers and sisters in their time of grieving and once again condemn this crime against humanity.
On behalf of my nation and people, I would like to express our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones.
28 years ago, human dignity was severely injured in Srebrenitsa. This genocide has been a disgrace for human history in general and for Europe in particular.
It was humanity, conscience and compassion that was buried in Srebrenitsa28 years ago. No matter how long may pass, our pain will still remain fresh. We shall never forget the cries of mothers and the children.
In order not to face the repetition of such tragedy, we must strive to build new generations raised in culture of peace and reconciliation.
Hence it is important to put an end to hate speech, segregation and divisions. We should, of course, also mention Islamophobia, which should be fought against. These are areas in which it is very important to fight together.
Attacks in Hanau and Halle in February 2019; NSU murders, Solingen Disaster and others remind us once again that we should always be vigilant against xenophobia, Islamophobia, racism, extreme nationalism, ethnic and religious radicalism.
As Türkiye, we intensely work to bring lasting peace and stability in the region in order not to face any kind of similar events in the future.
Türkiye provides all necessary support for the security and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ensuring the future of Bosnia-Herzegovina as a strong and prosperous country is our duty to the martyrs we lost in Srebrenitsaand other parts of Bosnia-Herzegovina. There is no doubt that generations of young people are the guarantee of a peaceful and prosperous Bosnia-Herzegovina.
It should not be forgotten that the peace in the Balkans is directly linked with the peace in Europe.
Hence we are also concerned with the developments in the north of Kosovo. We call on all sides to avoid violence and not to take actions that will further escalate tensions as these events will have harming affect on regional security and stability.
In this respect Türkiye, will continue to do its part to sustain the regional peace and stability in the region in order to protect the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious social structure of the Balkans.
Thank you.
